The Illusionist
I really loved the visual style that this story was filmed in. It placed the viewer firmly in the time period and reinforced the "magic" occurring in the tricks. The film has a fairy-talish aesthetic; the sepia toned photography and fog machines emphasise this, as well as the obvious link to silent film style iris transitions.
Pirates of the Carribean
This is also a period styled film and contains lovely aesthetics and special effects used to create the world in which they all live. Bit of a fantasy element with the pirate elements....theme?
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Although the story took a while to get fully involved with, the visuals of this film are beautifully composed and emphasise the periods that Benjamin is in during his life.
Constantine
This film is based on the comic book Hellblazer by DC/Vertigo. I like the world interaction (Constantine kills half demons in order to earn salvation from a suicide attempt when he was younger).
Van Helsing
Love the visuals and combination of SFX to form the fantasy environment.
